The stud

Our stud is one of the oldest trotting breeding centres in Westphalia. A hundred years have already passed since the purchase of the first trotting mare „Susanne“ in 1911. Many important and great winners had been bred on our stud, well known stallions had been offered by us, amongst others the german Derby-winner „Vinci“, the american „Lucky Hanover“ or the french „Fifi beau Gosse“.

Our approx. 50 hectare (123 acres) farm is led by Josef (state qualified farmer) and Elisabeth Weitkamp (insemination attendant). From the next generation, the daughter Ulrike (bank business economist) and her husband Daniel (state-certified agricultural business economist and insemination attendant) are already responsible for the welfare of the horses.

The calcareous loamy grounds of the spacious meadows offer best conditions for horse breeding. The meadows and paddocks are manured on the basis of regular core samples. In addition, the meadows are grazed by cattles and horses in turn to improve the quality of the ground.

The ideal care of the horses is completed by self-made soilage and grass from our fields, balanced additional nutrients as well as regularly visits from the farrier, veterinary surgeon and a nearby animal hospital.
